Exciting News....
While in Venice
recently, I stayed with a photographer and his family, soaked up the local life, took loads of photos and explored places where the tourists don't go. In September, all being
well, and if we can get round the logistics, we're planning to have an
exhibition together in Venice, probably on the Lido. Can't wait to go back to
get the ball rolling, hopefully the venue is sorted but the dates are still to be
arranged, so watch this space.....
Exhibition Review in EADT
The East Anglian Daily Times art critic, Sonia Carvill has reviewed the 'Summer Breeze' exhibition at the Reunion Gallery in Felixstowe. Your can read her review here
It's a great review so she obviously enjoyed this exhibition! This is what she said about some of my work:-
'The power of wave and wind are also portrayed in Alison Malcolm’s graphic print Summer Storm at the Dip I. Here brooding clouds threaten thunder, teasing froth and foam. A row of beach huts stand on parade, characterful and watchful, as the sun breaks over the gold flecked sand. This is a dramatic print. Summer Field Walk, acrylic, shows Malcolm’s painterly skills. The wide panorama, with its high horizon, is painted in fluid hues, capturing the shifting movement of the sun; lines scored into lush green fields adding energy'. Mmmm...nice.

Reunion Gallery Summer Exhibition
Here's an invitation to what's promising to be a lovely summer exhibition. I've been billed as Alison Flower, which is my real name.... I exhibit as Alison Malcolm usually, so this will be a little bit different.
I'm showing new graphic prints, acrylic paintings and some limited edition prints. Also I've just put the finishing touches to an unusual collage...
So, you'd be very welcome to pop into the gallery, I'll be there on 2nd June in the afternoon and would love to see you for an arty chat and a cuppa!

Dublin
A long weekend in Dublin to see the Waterboys and to soak up some Irish culture.....
Photography isn't permitted in Dublin art galleries, so my little pocket-sized camera had to snap the architecture instead. Here are some pics of the wonderful staircase in the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and the rotunda ceiling in the National Museum. The photography exhibition in the Modern Art Museum really blew my socks off - it's so worth a visit - the photos range from a Man Ray to an image made from melted chocolate, which is amazing.
The Dublin City Gallery in Parnell Square, is probably my favourite arty place in the whole of Dublin. The artwork there is modern, includes a few Bacons, (including his whole studio) Sculleys and Henrys, and the entry is free. The building is beautiful, and while we were there a harp and cello concert was performed.... mmmm.....I love looking at art listening to music....Tuesday, 21 February 2012
Andalucia in February
We've just come back from a great 3-day weekend in Andalucia, Southern Spain. Everywhere you look in the mountain region, there's something to paint, but as it was such a quick visit, I didn't take any painting equipment :-(( Have a look at www.andalucianretreats.com for details of where we stayed, and have a look at my galleries http://www.pbase.com/flocolm/southern_spain_2012 for more images.

Pas de Calais, Northern France
Just back from a quick few days in France, a nice break and a chance to use my little compact camera.
Loved these circles, and textures..... The top two images were taken in Montrieul, a pretty walled town in Pas de Calais, the dome is the cathedral in Boulogne. The turquoise and grunge in the centre photo are making me want to get into the studio and splash some colour and texture onto canvas, mmm......watch this space!

Patrick's French Beach Hut
This lovely etching was a New Year present from Patrick Fournier and his wife Martine. Patrick is an artist based in Paris who also has a studio on the Normandy coast. Each time we go to Normandy, both Patrick and Martine make us so very welcome. I love this etching of Patrick's, he says he has many happy childhood memories of time spent at this beach hut ........
